Literally an award-winning program at Town of Milton was brought about by a desire to do something different. The orthodox request to the world via RFP was "Help us get Records into SharePoint". My reply was "Why?". While SharePoint is a fine place to keep records secure - it doesn't always make information more relevant to staff.
Milton, being innovators seeking the best outcome - was wide open to the idea of putting their data first. If it is a Record - it belongs in the Record system. If it is anything else of value, it deserves to be found immediately by the staff that needs it. If it is low or no value - it should be carefully disposed.
We showed value immediately getting rid of stale data, saving costs and complexity. We progressed to using AI and other modern tools to identify important Town documents and Records. Then deployed Shinydocs Search which Milton re-branded as Milton DocuSearch. Their staff love it. And trust me, municipal staff aren't usually first in line to try new tech. But this time, it helped them in ways that made their jobs faster.
We continue to help Town of Milton drive a world-class data-driven Information and Records program that has netted them the AMCTO EA Danby Certificate of Merit – and MISA 2024 Excellence in Municipal Systems and the MISA 2024 People's Choice Award!
